Our guest house can be easily reached from Fiumicino Airport by taking the Leonardo Express to Roma Termini Station. From Termini, take Metro Line A in the direction of Battistini for 5 stops (approximately 9 minutes) and get off at Ottaviano. From there, Via degli Scipioni 145 is only a pleasant 3-minute walk away.

The Leonardo Express Airport Train Service

The Leonardo Express connects Fiumicino Airport with Roma Termini and Roma Tiburtina.
It is one of the most practical ways to reach the city centre.

Tickets can be bought online at Trainline or Trenitalia, in the airport or in the train stations. Boarding a train that departs before the time shown on your ticket may result in a fine during inspection, while boarding a later train is generally accepted. Tickets purchased online through Trainline or Trainitalia do not need to be validated.

Departures every 15 minutes, with a travel time of approximately 32 minutes

The Metro & Bus Network “ATAC” in Rome

Metro tickets can be purchased from the ATAC ticket offices at the airport, from the self-service machines at the metro station, newsstands or from selected authorised shops inside the terminal, including the Tourist Information Point.
A standard ATAC ticket currently costs €1.50 per person, is valid for 100 minutes, and may be used on both the metro and ATAC city buses within that time period.

Tourist passes are available for 24 hours (€7.00), 48 hours (€12.50), or 72 hours (€18.00), with a weekly ticket (CIS) costing €24.00. Tickets must be validated upon boarding or entry.

The Rome metro network (Lines A, B/B1 and C) generally runs from 5:30 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday, with the last service at 11:30 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, service is extended until 1:30 a.m. Trains usually run every 10 to 15 minutes, with a higher frequency of around 4 to 5 minutes during peak hours.

After metro service ends, transport is usually replaced by night bus lines on nights from Sunday to Thursday, while later service is generally maintained during weekend nights. As schedules may occasionally vary due to maintenance works or service updates, we recommend checking the official ATAC or Roma Mobilità websites if travelling late in the evening.

Airport Shuttle

The SIT Bus Shuttle, connects Fiumicino Airport (Terminal 3, Stall 16) with the Vatican area, stopping at Via Crescenzio 19 before continuing to Roma Termini. The Vatican stop is in Via Crescenzio 19, and one-way fares are listed from €7 per person, subject to change.

From Via Crescenzio 19 to Scipioni Relais, Via degli Scipioni 145, the distance is approximately 0.6 km, which translates into roughly 10–15 minutes on foot, depending on the route and luggage.

Taxi

The official taxi service is available right outside the Arrival areas Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 and the cost to Rome city centre is currently fixed at €55, and the journey to Scipioni Relais usually takes around 40 minutes, depending on traffic.

Please note that the fare can be more expensive in certain cases, for example for evening journeys or when transporting a larger number of suitcases. For added peace of mind, we recommend confirming the fare with the driver before departure.

Authorised taxis in Rome are white, display a “TAXI” sign on the roof, and show the official licence number on the doors, at the back, and inside the vehicle. The symbol of the relevant Municipality “SPQR” is also displayed on the front doors.

Uber fares from Fiumicino Airport to central Rome may vary, but the Uber app currently shows prices from around €64 for Uber Black.

Smaller and convenient for low-cost flights, with bus and taxi connections to central Rome

Scipioni Relais can be conveniently reached from Ciampino Airport by taking the bus to Anagnina (Cinecittà) Metro Station. From there, continue on Metro Line A towards Battistini for 21 stops (approximately 29 minutes) and get off at Ottaviano. From the metro station, Via degli Scipioni 145 is just a short 3-minute walk away.

The ATAC Bus + Metro A

The company that manages public transport in the city, ATAC, provides a bus line connecting Ciampino Airport to the metro station located around the outskirts of Rome.

Bus 520 takes seven stops to reach Cinecittà. From there, the metro line A (direction Battistini) goes straight to the Otttaviano Statio which is only a pleasant 3-minute walk away from Via degli Scipioni 145. The total journey takes around 55 minutes, not including waiting times.

Where the ATAC bus departs:
✓ The ATAC buses depart from bus stop 4, just outside the arrivals terminal. Once you reach either station, follow the signs to the metro.

You can buy an integrated BIT ticket if you take the metro and city bus from CIA Airport to Rome. The ticket costs just €1.50 and is valid for 100 minutes on multiple modes of transport. You can use it on buses, trams, metro lines, and regional trains – excluding a few direct airport-to-city routes.

You can purchase your tickets from ATAC ticket offices in the airport, self-service machines, and certain authorized shops in the terminal including the Tourist Information Point and At Chef Express.

The Ciampino Airport Shuttle

A number of shuttle bus services connect Ciampino Airport with Rome city centre. Among the main operators are Terravision and SIT Bus, both of which offer a practical transfer to Roma Termini Station.

The Terravision service runs non-stop and reaches Roma Termini in approximately 40 minutes. The SIT Bus offers a similar travel time. From Termini, guests may continue easily by metro, taxi, or private transfer.

✓ Regardless of your provider, all the bus stops are opposite the International Departures exits. As you exit the airport, follow the signs to the buses. You’ll see covered bus stops just outside.

A one-way shuttle bus ticket from Ciampino Airport to Rome generally costs around €6 per person, while a return ticket is usually around €11.
Tickets may be purchased online through the respective operators’ websites, directly from the driver, or at the Airport Ticket Offices.

Taxi

Taxis from Ciampino Airport generally operate by taximeter, although journeys to and from certain areas of Rome are subject to a fixed fare. The current flat rate to Rome city centre is €40 and applies to destinations within the Aurelian Walls, including Via degli Scipioni 145.

As these fares are set by the municipality and may change without notice, we recommend confirming the rate with the driver before starting the journey.

What

Rome has 3 metro lines: A, B/B1 and C. On the official ATAC metro map, Line A crosses Line B/B1 at Termini and Line C at San Giovanni. For guests staying at Scipioni Relais in Prati, Line A is usually the most useful: it connects easily with areas such as Ottaviano / Vatican, Spagna, Barberini, Termini, and San Giovanni. Line B/B1 is useful for destinations such as Colosseo, Circo Massimo, Ostiense, Tiburtina, and EUR. Line C is mainly useful for eastern / south-eastern parts of Rome.

Where

The nearest and most practical stop is Ottaviano on Line A, about 150 metres / 3 minutes on foot from Scipioni Relais. Lepanto, also on Line A, is another useful option and is about 8 minutes on foot.. For most central sightseeing routes, Line A will be the easiest starting point from Prati.

When

Metro services normally run from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM from Sunday to Thursday, and until 1:30 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. After metro service ends, night buses continue along similar routes.

Cost

The most useful ticket for occasional travel is the BIT ticket, which currently costs €1.50 and is valid for 100 minutes. It can be used across metro, buses, trams, trolleybuses, and some urban rail services, although on the metro it is valid for one entry / one journey through the turnstiles. For heavier use in one day, ROMA 24H currently costs €7.00, ROMA 48H €12.50, and ROMA 72H €18.00.

81 — useful for reaching parts of the historic centre, including the Vatican / Risorgimento side, Piazza Venezia, and the broader Colosseum / San Giovanni direction. ATAC shows the line running between Crescenzio / Risorgimento and Malatesta, and tourist guides commonly recommend it as one of the most useful sightseeing bus lines.
Best nearby stop: Crescenzio / Risorgimento.

492 — useful for crossing the city between the Vatican / Cipro / Prati area and Tiburtina Station, passing through central areas such as Piazza Venezia along the way. ATAC lists the line between Cipro (Line A) and Tiburtina (Line B).
Nearby stop: Ottaviano or Crescenzio / Risorgimento.

590 — useful if you need to travel south-east along Metro Line A, for destinations such as Re di Roma, Ponte Lungo, and Cinecittà. ATAC lists the line between Cipro and Cinecittà, with stops including Ottaviano, Appia / Re di Roma, and Appia / Ponte Lungo.
Nearby stop: Ottaviano (Metro A).

32 — useful for reaching Saxa Rubra and the northern part of the city. ATAC lists the line between Giulio Cesare / Ottaviano (Line A) and Saxa Rubra.
Nearby stop: Giulio Cesare / Ottaviano (Metro A).

Bus 913 — useful for the Monte Mario side.
Nearby stop: Giulio Cesare / Ottaviano (Metro A) or Crescenzio / Risorgimento.

Tram 19 / 19L — For tram connections, the most useful corridor from this area is usually the 19 / 19L route, which links the Prati / Giulio Cesare / Ottaviano side with Valle Giulia / Flaminio, and on the wider route toward Porta Maggiore / Centocelle.

When

Operating hours vary by line and direction, so it is best to check the official ATAC Plan your Journey tool before travelling. For late-evening travel, ATAC also provides dedicated night-line maps, as some routes change after regular daytime service ends. Tram services may also be affected by temporary works or replacement buses, so the Status Updates page is useful before setting out.

Cost

Buses and trams are also covered by the same ATAC / Metrebus Roma ticket system used for the metro. For travel to other Italian destinations, the main rail operator is Trenitalia, while Italo is widely used for high-speed routes.

City Destinations

• Naples — from about 55 min / 1h, arriving at Napoli Centrale, with the Naples Duomo / historic-centre area about 10 minutes on foot.
• Bologna — from about 1h 57 min, arriving at Bologna Centrale, with Piazza Maggiore / the historic centre about 15–20 minutes on foot.
• Florence — from about 1h 25–30 min, arriving at Firenze Santa Maria Novella, in the historic centre and about 15 minutes on foot from the Duomo.
• Milan — from about 3 hours, arriving at Milano Centrale. The Duomo is about 35–40 minutes on foot, or around 6 minutes by Metro Line M3.
• Venice — from about 3 hours 34 minutes / 4 hours, arriving at Venezia Santa Lucia, which is in Venice itself, on the Grand Canal. From the station, Rialto is about 20 minutes on foot and Piazza San Marco about 30–35 minutes on foot.

Regional Trips

• Tivoli — about 35–60 min by train. The station is not right in the historic centre, but Villa d’Este and the historic centre are about 1–1.1 km away, roughly 15 minutes on foot.
• Viterbo (Porta Romana) — about 1h 30min by train. The historic centre is about a 15-minute walk, while Piazza San Lorenzo / Palazzo dei Papi is about 18 minutes on foot.
• Castel Gandolfo — about 38–48 minutes by train, arriving at Castel Gandolfo station, with the historic centre and the Papal Palace around 15 minutes on foot.
• Frascati (Castelli Romani) — about 30 minutes by train, with the historic centre a short walk from the station.

Seaside Destinations

• Santa Marinella — about 40–55 min by train, with the main beach area around 5 minutes on foot from the station.
• Anzio — seaside town, about 1h by train. Anzio station is close to the town centre, and the port / seafront is about a 10-minute walk, while the beach is generally around 10–15 minutes on foot, depending on which stretch you choose.
• Nettuno — seaside town, about 1h 10 min by train. Nettuno station is near the town centre, and the beach / seafront is about 6–10 minutes on foot.

For international guests, app-based booking is usually the easiest option.
Rome’s official tourist portal recommends the Chiama Taxi 060609 service and app.
Other widely used taxi services in Rome include:

The inTaxi app is also available in Rome (very efficient).

A public taxi rank is available at Piazza Risorgimento, on the corner with Via Ottaviano, approximately 390 metres (around 6 minutes on foot) from Scipioni Relais.

Fares

Within Rome, public taxis normally run on the meter. For airport routes, the City of Rome publishes official fixed fares and supplements in the municipal taxi tariff. We recommend checking the official fare page directly, as prices and rules may change.

For international guests, Uber can be a practical app-based option in Rome. Through the app, guests can request licensed taxis and, depending on availability, other ride options as well.
For airport transfers and some city rides, Uber Reserve may also be available. Uber states that rides in Rome can be reserved from 2 hours up to 90 days in advance, where the Reserve option appears in the app.

ZTL / Driving in Rome

Guests arriving by car should be aware that Rome has ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone) areas with access restrictions on certain days and times.
Scipioni Relais is located in the Prati area, outside the Historic Centre ZTL, which means the guesthouse itself is not inside the main restricted central zone.

The Historic Centre ZTL is active for non-authorised vehicles Monday to Friday from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and also Friday and Saturday nights from 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM. As access rules and environmental restrictions may change, we strongly recommend checking the official Roma Mobilità pages before arriving by car.

Environmental restrictions

Rome also applies Fascia Verde environmental rules.
According to the current official page, from 1 November 2025 permanent restrictions apply to petrol/GPL/methane Pre-Euro 1, Euro 1 and Euro 2, and to diesel Pre-Euro 1, Euro 1, Euro 2 and Euro 3.
As these rules may be updated, it is best to verify your vehicle category before travelling.

Garage

Several private garages are available near Scipioni Relais, including Garage Scipioni (approx. 12–15 min on foot), Garage Vespasiano (approx. 8–10 min), Parking Risorgimento (approx. 8–10 min), and Parking Prati (approx. 10–12 min). Among the nearby options, Parking Prati currently publishes rates from €4 for the first hour, €3 for each following hour, with a daily maximum of €20. For other garages, we recommend checking availability and current prices directly before arrival, as tariffs may vary (links below).

Public parking

Public parking is available around the guesthouse.
According to ATAC, the ordinary blue-stripe rate is currently €1.00 per hour outside the ZTL and €1.20 per hour inside the ZTL.
Reduced rates currently listed by ATAC include €0.20 for 15 minutes, €4.00 for 8 consecutive hours, and €70.00 for a full calendar month.
Parking can be paid at parking meters, with coins, prepaid vouchers, or through approved parking apps such as easyPark, Telepass, mooneyGo, ParkingMyCar, ParkAppy, DropTicket, and others listed by ATAC.

How it works

In Rome there are two main free-flow car-sharing operators authorised by Roma Capitale: Free2move and Drivalia. “Free-flow” means you book the car in the app, unlock it with your phone, and return it within the operator’s service area rather than to a fixed rental office. Rome also has Car Sharing Roma, which is station-based / one-way and uses dedicated parking areas booked together with the car.

What is most practical for guests

For short city use, Free2move and Drivalia are usually the easiest options for visitors. Free2move says its cars are available 24/7, free-float across a Rome “Home Area,” and can be booked, unlocked, and ended directly in the app.
Free2move also states that you can drive outside the Home Area as long as you bring the car back to end the trip, and that public street parking in the Home Area is free under its parking rules.

Practical setup

With Free2move, the process is: download the app, upload your driving licence, wait for validation, then choose a minute, hourly, or daily rate in the app before starting the trip.
Car Sharing Roma also has its own app and requires a one-off registration fee before use.

Cost overview

Current published entry-level prices are:

• Free2move Rome — from €0.21/minute, €10.99/hour, €44/day for a Peugeot 208; some models start from €0.28/minute, €10.99/hour, €44/day. Free2move also notes that hourly and daily rates do not include mileage, which is charged separately per kilometre
• Drivalia — pay-per-use from €0.39/minute, with a maximum daily charge of €69.99 per rental; Drivalia also advertises wallet packages and one-shot packages in the app.
• Car Sharing Roma — one-off registration from €14.90 for an individual account. Published usage rates for a Fiat Panda Hybrid / Citroën ë-C3 are currently €2.50–€3.00/hour by day, €1.40–€1.68/hour at night / weekends / holidays, plus €0.49–€0.59/km for the first 150 km and €0.33–€0.40/km after 150 km, depending on journey type

Good to know

For most short tourist use, Free2move is the simplest to understand because the app shows nearby cars and lets you choose minute / hour / day pricing.
Car Sharing Roma is useful too, but it is more structured and less spontaneous as it is based on dedicated parking stations and registration.
Since prices, service areas, and app offers may change, it is best to check the operator directly before booking.

What / When

Traditional car rental can be a practical option for day trips outside Rome, regional travel, or multi-day use, especially if you plan to visit places that are less convenient by train.
Within Rome itself, driving is often less practical because of traffic, parking costs, and ZTL / environmental restrictions, so a rental car is usually most useful when leaving the city.

Nearby rental offices

A convenient nearby option is Europcar Rome Via Cipro (Vatican), at Via Cipro 104, approximately 18–20 minutes on foot from Scipioni Relais.
